Most people shop at a flea market hoping to find a bargain. Unfortunately, one attendee in our next case was hoping for an even cheaper deal- a free (stolen) car! Luckily, the owner of this Toyota Camry had a LoJack® system installed – which proved to be a great investment.

On April 7th, 2013, the Camry’s owner contacted the Fayetteville Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from a flea market in Fayetteville, NC.  The owner had been shopping in the flea market and discovered the keys to the car were missing.  The victim traced their movement back to a booth where the operators indicated the car keys had apparently been dropped and picked up by a female.  The owner asked the female about the car keys, but she denied any knowledge about the keys.  The owner then went outside to where the Toyota had been parked and discovered the vehicle was missing.

Fayetteville PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Toyota Camry, which was installed at Toyotaland in Springfield, NJ.

A short time later, a Fayetteville detective searching for the car in Lumberton, NC, began to pick up the homing signals from the Toyota on the LoJack tracking computers installed in his patrol vehicle. The vehicle was recovered parked behind an unoccupied residence in Lumberton, and was soon returned to its grateful owner.
