16 minutes is not a great deal of time, but in this case it was enough for the Fort Lauderdale, FL Police, with help from the LoJack® System, to retrieve a stolen car AND take three suspects into custody!

On Monday morning, March 4, 2013, the owners of a 2009 Toyota Yaris contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report that their vehicle was stolen from their home in Oakland Park, Florida. The responding officer entered the vehicle’s information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Yaris, which was installed at Lipton Toyota in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

A short while later, a Fort Lauderdale PD officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer located the Yaris and began following it. The car’s occupants saw a police car behind them, pulled over, and fled on foot. All three suspects were soon apprehended and arrested for Grand Theft Auto. The Toyota was recovered and soon returned to its grateful owners.
