You may have noticed that, in many of our LoJack® System recoveries, the stolen vehicle is found abandoned. Why is that? It’s because many auto thieves are aware of how the LoJack unit works, and want to verify whether or not one is installed in the car, truck or motorcycle they misappropriated, so they hide it in an underpopulated area. This window of time gives your local police a chance to recover your car, truck or motorcycle before any major damage can be done.

On April 16th, 2013, the owner of a Ford Five Hundred contacted the Gwinnett County, GA Police to report that their vehicle had been stolen from their home in Norcross. The Gwinnett County PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Ford, which was installed at Mall of Georgia Ford in Buford, GA.

A short while later, Gwinnett County officers began receiving a homing signal from the stolen Ford on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to a home in Lilburn, where the vehicle was found abandoned and in good condition. The Five Hundred was soon returned to its grateful owners.
