You’ve just spent a fun evening with friends at a restaurant, and you go to your car to return home- but it’s gone. This is a bad ending to a night of good times. Recently, a New Jersey resident experienced this situation, but he was smart enough to have the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his 2007 Honda Accord, so his local police were able to retrieve his vehicle in only 72 minutes!

On April 11, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted the Newark, NJ Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen. The customer told police that he last saw his vehicle around 11 PM when he parked at a restaurant and went in to meet some friends.  When he left around 2 AM, the vehicle was missing from the lot.

The Newark PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Accord, which was installed at Planet Honda in Union, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to Ferry Street in Newark, where he found the vehicle parked and undamaged. The Honda was soon returned to its relieved owner.
