You may or may not be familiar with a piece of construction equipment known as a Skid Steer. As you can see in the picture below, it’s a pretty large item, but its size does not deter thieves from trying to take it. Luckily, the Illinois based company who owns this particular machine was smart enough to have a LoJack® unit installed.

On the morning of April 15th, 2013 the yard manager of a fenced in construction site in Chicago noticed a Case skid steer missing, and notified the Chicago Police Department. Police verified the vehicle as stolen and entered it into their local and federal crime computers.  This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the machine, which was installed at McCann Industries in Bolingbrook, IL.

Shortly after being activated, Illinois State Police troopers began receiving the homing signal from the skid steer on the LoJack tracking computers in their patrol vehicles. The troopers located the Case machine in a rented garage on 31st Street, and soon reunited it with its owners.

When notified of the quick recovery, the manager of the construction site was very pleased and stated that “LoJack really works!”
