A backhoe is a pretty large piece of equipment, but it’s not too big to be stolen. The owner of this particular John Deere was glad to have the LoJack® device installed when it turned up missing, because, with the help of local police, the stolen backhoe was soon ‘back home’.

On April 1st, 2013, the owner of a John Deere Backhoe contacted the Prince George’s County Police Department to report that their unit was stolen from a construction site  in New Carrollton, Maryland. Prince George’s County officers verified the theft and entered the backhoe information into their state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the John Deere, which was installed at Valley Supply & Equipment Company in Baltimore, Maryland.

After a short period of time, deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen John Deere on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputies tracked the backhoe to the Prince Frederick area of MD, where it was found abandoned in a vacant area, along with two previously stolen skid steers, one from MD and the other from Virginia. The backhoe was soon returned to its owners.
