You’ve just finished a long, tough day at work. All you want to do is get in your car, go home, have dinner and relax. This sounds like a great plan- until you get out to the parking lot and find that your vehicle is gone. This recently happened to a California resident who was smart enough to plan ahead and have a LoJack® unit installed when she purchased her 2011 BMW 335d.

On April 12th, 2013, the BMW’s owner contacted the San Francisco police as soon as she noticed her car missing. The SFPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device, which was installed at BMW of Mountain View, CA, was then automatically activated.

In a short while, San Francisco police picked up the homing signals from the stolen BMW with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  SFPD officers located the car on a side street 2 miles from where the vehicle was stolen, parked at the curb and undamaged.  The 335d, valued at $37,000, was soon returned to its happy owner.
