A lot of vehicle owners think that because they own an older model, there is a small chance that it will be stolen. Unfortunately, this is not so. Many of these ‘not-so-new’ cars are highly desired by thieves to sell to ‘chop shops’- illegal auto part dealers. Our next victims were very glad to have the LoJack® unit installed in their Jeep, so the local police could get the thief to stop- before the chop.

On April 9th, 2013, the owners of a Jeep Grand Cherokee contacted the Thornton, Colorado police department to report that their SUV was stolen from their home. The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit, which was installed at Pro Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Thornton, CO.

A short while later, officers from several jurisdictions (Adams County, Thornton PD, Westminster PD, Denver PD and Colorado State Patrol) picked up the homing signals from the Jeep with the LoJack tracking computers that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The Denver officers tracked it to a salvage yard north of Downtown Denver.  The stolen Jeep was not visible from the street but was found in the locked yard of the used auto parts dealer.  Officers also examined another Jeep parked adjacent to the business on the street; that vehicle was discovered to be stolen from Denver. The Grand Cherokee was soon returned to its happy owner.
