On February 8, 2013, the owner of a 2009 Nissan Altima contacted the South Gate, California Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. South Gate police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their crime computer, which automatically activated the LoJack® unit installed in the Nissan when it was purchased at Cerritos Nissan in Cerritos, CA.

A short while later, a deputy from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen Nissan on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle, and tracked the still-moving vehicle to Bakersfield. The deputy began following the Altima until backup arrived, at which time a high risk traffic stop was made and the driver was removed from the vehicle and arrested. The undamaged Altima was soon returned to its rightful owner.
