On March 24, 2013, a Los Angeles resident found that their Honda Civic was stolen from the street where it had been parked, and immediately contacted the local Police Department to report the theft. As soon as officers entered the Civic’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into their computer, the LoJack ® device- which was installed when the vehicle was purchased from Miller Nissan in Van Nuys, CA- was automatically activated.

A short while later, deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Century Station picked up the signal from the stolen Honda on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle, and were able to track the vehicle to the rear yard of a residence. The owner of the residence claimed that a friend brought the vehicle over to have a stereo installed, but the story did not match the evidence the deputies observed. The suspect was arrested and the Civic returned to its owner.
