LoJack Aids Seattle Police in Recovering Jeep Grand Cherokee Stolen from Apartment Complex

 On the morning of February 22, 2013, the owner of a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland SUV started the vehicle and left it running to warm it up in the parking lot of her apartment complex located in the 8100 block of 8th Avenue South.  She went back into her apartment for a few minutes and when she returned to the lot, the vehicle was missing. She quickly reported the theft to the Seattle Police Department, who verified the crime and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. This process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Jeep.

Minutes later, an officer with the Seattle Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Jeep on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to the 7700 block of 28th Avenue Southwest.  There, he found the abandoned and undamaged vehicle.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Jeep Grand Cherokee in August of 2002 at Pitre Chrysler-Jeep in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The current owner was not aware the vehicle was equipped with LoJack.

The approximate value of the recovered vehicle is $6,000.
