On February 24, 2013, the owner of a 2008 Smart Car contacted the Grand Prairie Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from his front driveway.

The Grand Prairie Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Smart Car.

A short while later, officers from the Arlington Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Smart Car on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex, where they found the stolen Smart Car abandoned in the parking lot. The vehicle, valued at approximately $11,000, was recovered with no damage.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2008 Smart Car in April of 2008 at Park Place Motors.
