On February 9, 2013, the owner of a 2008 John Deere Backhoe contacted the South Brunswick Police Department to report that his backhoe had been stolen. The customer told police that the backhoe was being stored in the parking lot of a shopping center where it was used for snow removal.

The South Brunswick Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the backhoe.

A short time later, a police officer with the New Brunswick Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen backhoe on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his police vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the backhoe to a vacant lot near Rutgers University. The backhoe was recovered undamaged.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2008 John Deere Backhoe on July 8, 2009 at Harter Equipment in Millstone Township, New Jersey.
