On January 20, 2013, the owner of a 2007 Cadillac Escalade contacted the Atlanta Police Department to report that his SUV was stolen from his home. Atlanta Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the SUV.

A short while later, officers from the Georgia State Patrol began receiving a silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen SUV on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a shopping mall, where it was found abandoned in the lot.

After a check of the area, the troopers suspected that the driver spotted the officers and fled on foot before he could be caught. A police detective was called to the scene to process the stolen Cadillac and hopefully make an arrest.

The owner was notified of the recovery and was grateful to learn that it was in good condition without any damage. He stated that he was very glad a LoJack system had been installed when it was new at the dealership.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Cadillac in August of 2007 at United BMW in Gwinnett.
