On January 22, 2013, the owner of a 2010 Lexus RX3 contacted the East Orange Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen. The customer told police that her vehicle was last seen parked on North Maple Ave between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. When she returned to the vehicle it was gone. The customer also called the LoJack call center to advise LoJack of the theft.

The East Orange Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Lexus RX3.

A short time later, a police officer from the Newark Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Lexus on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to a parking lot in Branch Brook Park where the vehicle was recovered undamaged.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus RX3on August 5, 2012 at Hudson Toyota in Jersey City, New Jersey.
