On January 20, 2013, the owner of a 2012Audi Q7 contacted the Jersey City Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen. The customer told police that she was at the car wash and as the vehicle was being dried off, someone jumped into the vehicle and drove away. The customer also called the LoJack call center to advise LoJack of the theft.

The Jersey City Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Audi Q7.

A short time later, a police officer from the Newark Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Audi on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to a vacant house on 10th Avenue, where the vehicle was recovered undamaged in the backyard.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2012 Audi Q7 on June 6, 2012 at Audi Meadowlands in Secaucus, New Jersey.
