On January 22, 2013, the owner of a 2009 Toyota Camry contacted the Grimes County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway in the early morning hours. The victim identified the suspect as a former friend, who had burglarized their residence and stole the keys to the vehicle along with other valuables.

Grimes County Sheriff Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the State and Federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota Camry.

A short while later, a deputy from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Task Force picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota Camry on the Portable Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the deputy tracked the Camry to a residence in a rural community. There, he overtook the vehicle just as it parked in the driveway of the residence. The driver was arrested without incidence as he exited the vehicle. The owner was unaware they had purchased a LoJack-equipped vehicle and was very excited to have it recovered within a few hours.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Camry on December 1 at Champion Toyota – Gulf Freeway in Houston, TX. The total assets of the recovery were valued at $15,000.
