On January 16, 2013, the owner of a 2012 Toyota Corolla contacted the Newark Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen. The customer told police that two men had taken his vehicle by force while he was parking in front of his home.

The Newark Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota Corolla.

A short time later, a police officer from the Jersey City Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Corolla on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to a parking lot on Tonnelle Avenue, where the vehicle was recovered abandoned and undamaged.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Corolla on February 29, 2012 at Toyota of Turnersville in Turnersville, New Jersey.
