On December 29, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Toyota Rav4 contacted the Newark Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen from in front of his house. The owner also called the LoJack Customer Service Desk to advise LoJack of the theft.

The Newark Police Department verified the theft and entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Within minutes, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle in the City of Newark, where he located the Rav4, parked on the street undamaged.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota RAV4 on December 21, 2012 at Toyota of Morristown in Morristown, New Jersey.
