Livingston Police Use LoJack to Recover Land Rover Stolen in Armed Car Jacking in Hoboken

On December 16, 2012, the owner of a 2009 Land Rover contacted the Hoboken Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen. According to the owner, he was exiting his vehicle to go shopping when an armed man ordered him out of his vehicle. The suspect then climbed into the vehicle and drove away. The owner also called the LoJack Customer Service Desk to advise LoJack of the theft.

The Hoboken Police Department verified the theft and entered the Land Rover’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short time later, a police officer with the Livingston Police Department, who was traveling through the City of Newark, picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Land Rover on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked and located the undamaged vehicle, parked on the street,
