On December 4, 2012 the owners of a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta contacted the North Las Vegas Police Department to report that their car was stolen sometime during the early morning hours while parked near their home in the 4900 block of Palmilla, North Las Vegas. The North Las Vegas Police Department verified the theft and entered the Volkswagen’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated a hidden LoJack transponder in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s “Northeast Area Command” picked up the silent LoJack signals coming from the stolen car on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the stolen Volkswagen to N. Nellis Boulevard, where they found the car intact.

The Volkswagen Jetta was located over 15 miles away from where it had been taken, 90 minutes after being activated by the North Las Vegas Police. The vehicle was recovered and later released back to the owners.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Volkswagen Jetta on March 17, 2005 at Timmons Volkswagen of Long Beach, California.
