On the morning of October 15, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Infiniti QX56 contacted the Boston Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from outside his residence sometime during the previous night. After checking the immediate neighborhood, he contacted the Boston police to report the apparent theft.

Boston Police verified the theft and entered the Infiniti’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers with the Boston Police Department and troopers with the Massachusetts State Police picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Infiniti on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Freeport Street in the Dorchester Section of Boston. There, they located the undamaged and abandoned vehicle, and contacted the victim to notify him of the recovery. The vehicle was towed from the scene for safekeeping by the State Police.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Infiniti Q56 on July 23, 2008 at the Kelly Infiniti Dealership in Danvers, Massachusetts.
