On October 31, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Acura TSX contacted the New York Police Department’s 115th Precinct in East Elmhurst, Queens to report that his vehicle was stolen from it was parked at his place of business. According to the owner, he left his car unlocked with an extra key in the glove compartment.

NYPD officers verified the theft and had the Acura’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Due to a monstrous storm, NYC officials had the police working on a limited work schedule, where they were only responding to emergency flooding situations and emergency rescues. Eventually, their duties were eased up and they were able to track this vehicle.  Days later, the Police of the Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent signal coming from the vehicle on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack computer, the officers located the Acura in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, confines of the 60th Precinct. Unfortunately, the equipment and computers in the Precinct were destroyed in the storm, and all officers relocated to another Precinct.

The owner was notified of the vehicle’s recovery and responded to the scene; officers were unable to access a tow truck, as they were all attending to submerged and stalled cars. Nevertheless, the owner was elated to learn that his vehicle had been parked on high ground and was not destroyed by the area flooding. He was grateful to the Police and LoJack that his vehicle was recovered in excellent condition, without any damage, and stated that LoJack was a smart investment on his part when he purchased the vehicle.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2005 Acura on October 31, 2008 at Paragon Acura in Woodside, Queens, New York.
