On October 27, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Honda Ridgeway contacted the New York Police Department’s 114th Precinct to report the vehicle stolen from his driveway in Astoria, Queens. According to the owner, at 2:30AM, he had loaded up his vehicle with his hunting equipment, including two rifles, three pairs of binoculars, several fishing poles and various other items. When he returned for the vehicle at 4:30AM, he discovered the vehicle missing.

Officers from the 114th Precinct verified the theft and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers from the 114th Precinct picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Ridgeline on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential area in the Astoria section of Queens. There, they located the vehicle, parked on the street. They staked the vehicle for a while; however, when no one showed up for the vehicle, they took it into custody.

The vehicle was recovered in excellent condition, without any damage. The owner was notified, and arrived at the scene. Examination of his vehicle revealed that one of his rifles and a set of binoculars were missing: all of his other equipment was still there. A search of the glove compartment revealed that his spare set of keys was missing, which could have been the manner in which the theft was facilitated. Despite the missing equipment, the owner was still happy to have his vehicle back in excellent condition.  He was elated that his vehicle was recovered so quickly – especially without damage – and stated that it was well worth the money he spent for the LoJack when he purchased the vehicle.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2011 Honda Ridgeline at Paragon Honda in Woodside, New York on February 4, 2011.
