On October 10, 2012 the owner of a 2004 Lincoln Town Car contacted the Columbia Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from a parking lot in downtown Columbia.

Columbia Police verified the theft and entered the Lincoln’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Lincoln on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex on the outskirts of the city limits. The Lincoln was located, parked in the rear of that apartment complex. No suspects have been apprehended.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lincoln Town Car on November 7, 2003 by Pugmire Lincoln-Mercury of Marietta, Georgia.
