On September 5, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Lexus IS-350 contacted the Dekalb County Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their home while they were away. Dekalb County officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the 2006 Lexus. Until the time of the theft, the owners were unaware that their vehicle was equipped with a LoJack system.

A short while later, the Dekalb County Police Helicopter Unit picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Lexus on the Police Tracking Computers installed in the helicopter and relayed the tracking information to a marked unit on the ground. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the helicopter tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex. With the assistance of the patrol unit, the stolen Lexus was recovered from behind a building, in good condition. A detective was called to the scene for further investigation; the detective determined that the vehicle had been left there to be stripped of its parts at a later time.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus IS-350 on Nov 15, 2005 at Herb Chambers of Norwood, Massachusetts.
