Stolen Ford Econoline Quickly Recovered, Undamaged, by NYPD Officers Using LoJack

On August 8, 2012, the owner of a commercial 2007 Ford Econoline van contacted the New York Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from 140th Avenue in South Jamaica, Queens. NYPD’s 113th Precinct verified the theft and entered the Ford’s information into the state and federal crime computers (NYSPIN/NCIC), which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Just 20 minutes after the LoJack was activated, officers from NYPD’s 113th Precinct picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Ford on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential community in Jamaica, Queens. There, they conducted surveillance on the vehicle for a short period of time, but were unable to locate any suspects. The officers eventually contacted the owner and released the undamaged vehicle to the owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ford Econoline on September 10, 2007 at Scarsdale Ford in Scarsdale, New York.
