On August 19, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox contacted the Dekalb County Police Department to report that the vehicle was stolen from a shopping mall in Decatur while the owner was shopping. The Dekalb County Police verified the theft and entered the Chevrolet’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers from the DeKalb County Police (with the help of a Police Helicopter with a LoJack tracking unit) picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Equinox on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to an abandoned house, where they found it hidden. The officer believed that the person who stole the vehicle had hidden it there to cool off before driving it to a possible chop shop in the area.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Chevrolet Equinox on March 16, 2007 at Bill Heard Chevrolet in Union City, Georgia.
