On Saturday, August 4, 2012 the owner of a 2004 Mazda M6 contacted the Bethlehem Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the center city area of Bethlehem. Bethlehem officers verified the theft and had the Mazda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, members of the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack homing signal on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible signals on the LoJack computers, the investigators tracked and located the stolen Mazda, parked at the curb on Vine Street in Bethlehem. One of the undercover investigators cautiously approached the vehicle and determined that it was unoccupied. They placed the Mazda under surveillance for a short time, but when no one returned for it, they recovered the vehicle, processed it for physical evidence and returned it to the grateful owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Mazda M6 in October of 2004 at Route 1 Mazda.
