On August 6, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Dodge Durango contacted the East Point Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their home during the night. The East Point Police verified the theft and entered the Durango’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, an officer with the Union City Police Department picked up the Dodge’s silent LoJack homing signal on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex. The officer requested an East Point officer meet him at the complex, where they located the stolen vehicle in a parking space with the engine still running. The officers checked the area, but were not able to locate the driver.

The officers thought that the suspect may have seen them first and fled from the stolen vehicle. Prints were taken and will be held until the driver or person can be located.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2007 Dodge Durango in September of 2007 at Steve Raymond Chrysler Jeep in Union City, Georgia.
