On July 16, 2012, the owner of a 2011 BMW X5 contacted the San Diego Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen. San Diego Police verified the theft and entered the BMW’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short time later, officers with the San Diego Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen BMW on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential neighborhood at the corner of Draper and Bonaire Streets in San Diego.

The owner was very happy when the police contacted her to recover the vehicle which was found abandoned and undamaged.  The vehicle was valued at approximately $45,000.00.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the BMW X5 in March of 2011 at BMW of San Diego in San Diego.
