On July 23, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Lexus ES250 contacted the New York Police Department’s 67th Precinct, to report that her vehicle was stolen from in front of her house in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. The owner stated that a person known to her was visiting her at her apartment. When he left, he apparently took the keys to her vehicle and absconded with it. NYPD officers verified the theft and had the Lexus’ information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers with the Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Lexus on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential street in the Flatbush / East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. They followed the signal for several blocks until they caught up with the vehicle stopped at a light. There, they were able to quickly overtake the vehicle and thus, able to avoid a chase. The driver was taken into custody without incident, and the vehicle recovered without any damage..

The vehicle was recovered in excellent condition, without any damage. The owner was notified, and was elated to learn that her vehicle was equipped with LoJack, and that it had been recovered so quickly.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus on May 4, 2010 at Lexus of Rockville Center, New York.
