On July 25, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Cadillac Escalade contacted the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department to report the vehicle stolen during an armed robbery.  The owner had just parked his car in the driveway of his residence located in the 3800 block of 53rd Street Court.  When he exited the vehicle, he was confronted by two men, both armed with handguns.  They demanded his money, wallet and keys, assaulted the victim, and left with the Escalade.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Cadillac SUV.

Later that morning, an officer with the Lakewood Police Department received the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Escalade on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol cars.  Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was notified. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officers quickly tracked the vehicle to the 11000 block of Waller Road East near Tacoma.

The Escalade was located abandoned in an apartment complex at that address. The vehicle did not appear to be damaged. The police impounded the Escalade and had it processed for evidence.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Cadillac in March of 2004 at McCann Motors in Fife when it was purchased as a used vehicle.
