Batimore City Air & Ground Units Use LoJack to Recover Stolen Toyota Matrix, Arrest Suspect

On July 16, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Toyota Matrix contacted the Baltimore City Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the 2100 block of East Pratt Street in Baltimore, Maryland. At the time of the theft, the vehicle was valued at over $16,000. Baltimore City Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota.
A short while later, flight officers in the Baltimore City Aviation Unit, “Foxtrot” picked up the silent Lojack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their helicopter. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the flight officers tracked the vehicle to the 100 block of South Carson Avenue in Baltimore City. The vehicle was moving at the time and flight officers directed ground patrol units to a location where they were able to stop the vehicle. The ground officers arrested the lone suspect, recovered the undamaged Toyota, and notified the owner of its recovery.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Matrix in February of 2010 at Jerry’s Toyota in Baltimore, Maryland.
