On June 14, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Toyota RAV4 contacted Suffolk County Police Department’s 1st Precinct to report his vehicle stolen from his residence, after an estranged family member stole the keys to his vehicle. Suffolk County officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota.

Just ten minutes later, officers assigned to Suffolk’s 1st Precinct picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked and located the unoccupied vehicle parked on a residential street on Lakewood Drive in Wyandanch, NY.

The officers contacted the owner and released the undamaged auto to an extremely happy owner at the recovery location.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota RAV-4 on May 17, 2008 at Toyota of Manhattan dealership.
