Honda Motorcycle Stolen After Accident in San Bruno, Recovered by Police Using LoJack

On June 7, 2012, the owner of a 2003 Honda VTR1000 Super Hawk motorcycle was involved in an accident in San Bruno, California. He was transported to a local hospital and his bike was left at the scene of the accident. On the next day, June 8th, the owner’s sister went to where her brother’s motorcycle was left on the side of the road only to find it missing. She called the San Bruno Police Department to report the motorcycle stolen. San Bruno officers verified the theft and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.
A short while later, officers with the San Mateo Police Department picked up the motorcycle’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the PTCs, the officers tracked the Honda motorcycle to the off-street parking lot of an apartment complex. There, they located the bike, abandoned and covered with a tarp. The officers recovered the vehicle and held it for safekeeping.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in June of 2007 in Hayward, California.
