LoJack Recovery of Stolen Ford Pickup Leads to One Arrest

On June 3, 2012 a 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck was rented for the day from a Home Depot location in Deer Park, Long Island. When the vehicle was not returned, Home Depot employees made numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact the customer, but the address and contact information given at the time of the rental was incorrect. On June 7, 2012, a Home Depot representative contacted Suffolk County’s 1st Precinct and reported the vehicle stolen.Suffolk County officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Ford truck.
A short while later, officers from Nassau County Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Ford on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to Melanie Lane, a residential location in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County. There, the officers located the stolen pickup, with one individual sitting inside. They approached the vehicle, placed the suspect under arrest, and recovered the undamaged pickup.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ford F-350 on April 4, 2008 at a Home Depot location.
