Flight Officers in Baltimore City Quickly Recover Stolen Volvo 940, Abandoned Nearby

On the evening of May 30, 2012, the owner of a Volvo 940 contacted the Prince Georges County Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from the 6400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in the District Heights area. After verifying the theft, Baltimore City officers had the Volvo’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short time later, flight officers with the Prince Georges County Police Department’s aviation unit began to receive the Honda’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack Trackers, the flight crew tracked the Volvo to the 1800 block of Belle Haven Drive in the Landover area. There, the officers located the vehicle, parked and unoccupied. Ground patrol units responded to the scene, recovered the vehicle, and returned it to the grateful owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Volvo at the new car buyer’s request in April of 1998.
