Stolen Ford F350 Truck Recovered by Phoenix Police, 1 Suspect Detained

On May 9, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Ford F350 pickup truck contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from the owner’s residence. After verifying the theft, Phoenix Police had the Ford’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the pickup.

Within minutes, detectives with the “RATTLER” Auto Theft Task Force began to pick up the Ford F350’s silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible signal of the LoJack Tracker, the detectives located the stolen truck parked in the 7300 block of West Sells Avenue. Detectives set up surveillance and observed a Ford F150 stop by the stolen F350 and unload equipment and three suspects, who entered the F350 and started to drive off. Detectives attempted a high-risk stop, but the suspects drove away, only to stop two blocks away and flee on foot. All three suspects were located and identified as illegal immigrants. Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office located the F150 that dropped the suspects off near 51st Avenue and Ray Road, and detained one suspect.  

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ford F350 at the owner’s request in January 2007.
