Multiple Agencies Assist in the Recovery of Stolen Ford Pickup, One Arrested

On the morning of May 17, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Ford F150 Super Crew pickup truck contacted the Salem Police Department to report the overnight theft of the vehicle from Hollywood Drive in North Salem. Salem officers verified the theft and had the Ford’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
A short while later, a Portland Police Bureau Cessna aircraft equipped with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer flew over the area and advised ground units of the possible location of the Ford. Multiple agencies continued tracking the Ford as it moved around the area. An Oregon State Police trooper picked up the Ford’s silent homing signal and located the vehicle in the parking lot of a bowling alley in Salem. As officers investigated the stolen truck, three individuals emerged from a nearby apartment complex and upon seeing the police, all took off running. One was captured and a K9 unit was called in to locate the other two. The first suspect detained admitted to stealing the truck. He had the keys and personal items belonging to the owner in his pocket. There was some minor damage to the interior.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ford Super Crew pickup in September of 2011 in Tigard, Oregon.
