Riverside Officers Locate 2 Stolen Hondas, Arrest Parolee for Thefts & Recent Burglary

After the owners reported their 1999 Honda Civic stolen to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department’s Perris Station on April 13, 2012, officers completed a stolen vehicle report. The police then had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Honda and prompted it to begin emitting a silent homing signal.
Less than twenty minutes later, Riverside Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley and Perris Stations, began tracking the Honda’s homing signal. By following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles, the deputies isolated the tracking signal to the garage of a residence in the 16400 block of Ancladero Court in the City of Marino Valley. As the deputies were checking the location, they heard male voiced from within the garage. They knocked on the door, and heard someone ask, “Who is it?” When a deputy announced, “It’s the police”, everything went silent. They heard noise at the rear of the residence and saw an individual jump over the fence. Deputies on the perimeter of the property observed the suspect jumping other fences and quickly apprehended him.
The police requested that investigators from the Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail (RAID) respond, as they located another stolen Honda that had been used in a nearby commercial burglary. Their investigation revealed that the suspect who had fled the location had an outstanding parole warrant. Additional evidence implicated the same suspect in the theft of other vehicles, as well as the nearby burglary. He was arrested for Auto Theft, Possession of Stolen Property (2) counts and Possession of Burglary Tools (1) count and Parole Violation.
The LoJack-equipped Honda was released to the owner on scene and the other Honda towed and stored. This was the second time that the LoJack-equipped Honda had been stolen and recovered by police. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery Ssytem was installed in the Honda at Riverside Metro Auto Group, Riverside, California on October 01, 2001.
