While visiting friends on the night of April 10, 2012, the owner of a 1997 Toyota Camry parked his vehicle at a local business near North Rampart, Louisiana. Several hours later, he returned to the parking space and discovered that his Camry had been stolen. The owner immediately reported the theft to the New Orleans Police Department, who completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Camry’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Camry.  Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.

Twenty minutes later, an officer with the New Orleans Police Department on routine patrol began to receive the Toyota’s silent LoJack homing signals on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in his patrol car. The officer then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received confirmation that the signals were emitting from the stolen Toyota Camry. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the PTC, the officer tracked and located the vehicle, parked on the street next to the US Mint.  The Camry was recovered in good shape and returned to the owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Camry at the owner’s request in June 1997.
