Subaru Legacy Stolen and Recovered in Less than an Hour in Carroll County, MD

On May 6, 2012, the owner of a 2003 Subaru Legacy discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from West Main Street in Westminster, Maryland. The owner contacted the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, who responded to the scene, conducted an investigation, and had the Subaru’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the Subaru, prompting the transponder to begin emitting a silent homing signal.
Minutes later, patrol officers from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department received the Subaru’s silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their vehicles. The directional and audible signal of LoJack led officers to the intersection of Union Street and West End Rd in Westminster. There, the officers located the Subaru, parked and unoccupied. The police recovered the undamaged vehicle and returned it to the owner in less than one hour.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Subaru Legacy at the new car buyer’s request in January, 2003.
