Lexus IS250 Stolen in Braintree, MA Recovered by Massachusetts State Police Using LoJack

On the evening of April 24, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Lexus IS250 parked his vehicle outside of his residence and went inside for the night. When he returned to the vehicle the following morning, he discovered that it was missing and immediately contacted the Braintree Police Department to report the theft.
The responding officer completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Lexus’ information entered into the Massachusetts state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the vehicle, prompting it to begin emitting a silent homing signal.
Minutes later, officers from the Massachusetts State Police began to pick up the Lexus’ homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the prompts on the tracking computer, one of the troopers quickly located the unoccupied and undamaged stolen Lexus, parked on Christopher Street in the Dorchester section of Boston. The trooper had the vehicle towed from the scene for safekeeping until the Braintree Police Department could notify the owner of its recovery.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus IS250 at the owner’s request on March 28, 2006.
