Washington Police Stop Stolen Kia Soul, Take One Suspect into Custody for Theft

Late in the evening of April 25, 2012, a 2010 Kia Soul was stolen from the 900 block of Pacific Avenue in Bremerton by someone known to the owner. When the owner discovered the theft, he reported it to the Bremerton Police Department.
Officers completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Kia’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than an hour later, an officer with the Port Orchard Police Department received the Kia’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. By following the computer’s cues, the officer determined that the signal was coming from the direction of Bremerton, and notified their agency. A Washington State Patrol Cessna flying over the area also received the signal and notified the Bremerton Police of the location. Bremerton officers made a felony stop on the moving vehicle at 6th & Bryan. One suspect in the car was taken into custody. The investigation is continuing and charges are anticipated.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Kia in June 2009, when it was purchased as a new car.
