“Friend” Gives a Ride, Then Steals Porsche Boxter — Vehicle Quickly Recovered

On Saturday afternoon, April 7, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Porsche Boxter contacted the Cape Coral Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. Upon arrival at the Cape Coral Police Department headquarters, the responding officer met with the owner of the Boxter. The owner explained that a “friend” helped him drive his car from Vero Beach to his home in Cape Coral on April 4, 2012. The owner authorized his “friend” to drive the car, but only to his home in Cape Coral. However, this “friend” disappeared with the car and had not returned phone calls or messages.
The officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the vehicle’s information entered into the federal and state crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Porsche Boxter.
The next morning, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy, along with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, received the silent LoJack radio signal from the stolen Porsche’s LoJack unit. Following the directional and signal strength cues on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer, the officers quickly located the Boxter in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 11100 block of Heron Bay Boulevard. The vehicle was recovered in good condition, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from the police computer systems.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Porsche Boxter on September 13, 2006, and has been protecting the vehicle ever since.
