Dallas Police Recover Expensive BMW Stolen in Frisco, License Plates Switched for Dealer Tags

On April 24, 2012, the owner of a 2010 BMW 740LI had his car broken into. The thieves found the car keys hidden inside the vehicle and stole the car. The owner contacted the Frisco Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
The Frisco Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the BMW’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the BMW. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Later that day, Dallas Police officers picked up the BMW’s silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in their vehicle. Following the directional cues on the PTC, the officers tracked the stolen BMW to an apartment complex parking lot, where they found it parked. The suspects had removed the license plates and replaced them with a paper dealer tag. The vehicle, valued at $100,000.00, was recovered undamaged. This remains an ongoing investigation.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the BMW at the owner’s request on June 7, 2010.
