After Police Chase, Thief Jumps from Stolen Dodge Pickup — Arrested by San Antonio Police

When the owners of a 2004 Dodge R15 Pickup discovered that their vehicle had been stolen on April 16, they immediately filed a theft report with the San Antonio Police Department. After gathering all of the pertinent information, the San Antonio Police entered the vehicle’s information into the state and national law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Dodge pickup. Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than ten minutes later, officers with the San Antonio Department and Bexar County Sheriff’s Department received the silent homing signals from the stolen Dodge on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. Following the directional and signal strength information on the PTC, the officers began tracking the pickup and overtook it, traveling on a public street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it quickly sped away. A brief chase ensued and the vehicle pulled over; he jumped out and ran, but was quickly apprehended. The vehicle was returned to the owner with only entry and ignition damage.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the original owners request in September 2005.
