Mazda Miata Stolen and Recovered in Portland, Minutes After Theft is Reported

Sometime during the morning hours of April 15, 2012, a 2006 Mazda Miata convertible was stolen from NE Hasley Street and NE 41st Avenue in Portland. When the owner discovered the theft, he immediately reported the crime to the Portland Police Bureau. Portland officers completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Mazda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner, nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Just twelve minutes later, an officer with the Port of Portland Police Department received the Mazda’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. Following the audio and visual cues on the Tracking Computer, the officer located the vehicle, abandoned at NE Sandy Blvd. & NE 110th Avenue. The officer recovered the undamaged vehicle and notified the grateful owner.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Mazda in January 2006 as part of a pre-install program, in which the dealer protects their inventory prior to sale, and then offers the customer this valuable accessory.
