Stolen LoJack-Equipped Dump Truck Recovered Intact — Non-LoJack-Equipped Trailer Still Missing

On the afternoon of March 26, 2012, the owner of a 2004 International dump truck and 2006 Low Boy equipment trailer reported the truck and trailer stolen to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Richland County deputies completed a stolen vehicle report and had the dump truck’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the dump truck. Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Later, a deputy with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office detected the dump truck’s silent LoJack signal on his patrol vehicle’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). Following the directional cues on the PTC, the deputy tracked the vehicle to a secluded dirt road near Interstate 20 in Lexington County. The dump truck was recovered, intact and undamaged. The Low Boy trailer, however, was not equipped with a LoJack system, and was not recovered. No suspects have been arrested at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
